Einseitige Antireflexbeschichtung für optisches Glas

Single-Sided AR Coating is applied to one optical surface to reduce reflection and improve light transmission while leaving the opposite surface uncoated or available for another optical or functional treatment.

We provide custom single-side AR coating for fused silica, borosilicate glass, optical glass, and other precision substrates. Coating performance can be optimized for specific UV, visible, NIR, or laser wavelengths according to your application requirements.

Send us your substrate material, wavelength range, dimensions, quantity, and required reflectance or transmission for a custom coating recommendation and quotation.

Details – Einleitung

What Is Single-Sided AR Coating?

Single-sided anti-reflection (AR) coating is an optical thin-film treatment applied to only one surface of a glass substrate. It reduces reflection from the coated surface within a specified wavelength range, while the opposite surface remains uncoated or available for another treatment.

For custom optical components, this configuration is useful when only one surface requires AR coating or when the opposite surface must remain available for bonding, printing, assembly or another functional process.

We provide customized coating solutions for precision glass components based on substrate material, operating wavelength, dimensions and optical requirements.

Single-Sided vs. Double-Sided AR Coating

Choosing the correct coating configuration depends on the optical design and how the glass component will be assembled.

Funktion Single-Sided AR Double-Sided AR
Coating surfaces One surface Both surfaces
Primary purpose Reduce reflection on the selected surface Reduce reflection on both surfaces
Opposite surface Uncoated or reserved for another process AR-coated
Typical selection Components requiring treatment on one side only Transmission optics requiring reflection control on both sides

Wichtig: Single-sided AR coating does not eliminate reflection from the uncoated surface. For a conventional glass window in air, the uncoated surface may still reflect approximately 4% of incident light near normal incidence, depending on the glass material and wavelength.

If maximum transmission through both air-glass interfaces is required, consider our double-sided AR coating.

Custom Coating Specifications

Single-sided AR coatings are designed according to the optical and mechanical requirements of each project.

Parameter Customization Options
Substratmaterial Fused silica, borosilicate glass and optical glass
Coating configuration One designated surface
Wavelength range UV, visible or near-infrared, subject to design evaluation
Reflectance target Specified according to wavelength and angle of incidence
Abmessungen Custom size and thickness based on drawings
Beschichtungsfläche Full surface or defined clear aperture, subject to feasibility
Prüfung Optical performance and applicable dimensional requirements

Final coating specifications, tolerances and test requirements should be confirmed during technical review before production.

Typische Anwendungsbereiche

Optical Windows and Sensor Covers

Reduce reflection at a selected optical interface while retaining an untreated opposite surface where required by the assembly design.

Display Cover Glass

Improve reflection control on the viewing surface while allowing printing, bonding or other processing on the opposite side, subject to process compatibility.

Custom Optical Assemblies

Suitable for components that require different surface treatments on opposite sides or where only one surface needs an AR coating.

Laser and Imaging Components

Single-sided coating may be considered where the optical design requires treatment on only one surface. Laser applications require separate verification of coating performance and damage-threshold requirements.

Coating Design and Quality Verification

Coating performance depends on the substrate, wavelength, angle of incidence and coating design. The following items should be agreed upon before production:

  • Identification of the surface to be coated
  • Betriebswellenlänge oder Wellenlängenbereich
  • Target reflectance at the specified angle of incidence
  • Clear aperture and any required uncoated border
  • Substrate dimensions and surface quality
  • Environmental and durability requirements, where applicable

Reflectance or transmission data should be evaluated under the agreed measurement conditions. Environmental durability or laser damage performance must be verified separately when required by the application.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Can single-sided AR coating achieve the same total transmission as double-sided AR coating?

Not necessarily. The untreated surface still contributes reflection when exposed to air. Total transmission depends on the substrate, wavelength, absorption and both optical interfaces.

Can the opposite surface be used for another treatment?

Yes, depending on the substrate and process. Bonding, printing or other surface treatments should be evaluated for compatibility with the AR coating and the intended assembly.
